1. What is MeetMyMate
MeetMyMate is a dating site with a difference. It works pretty much the same way as other dating sites
except for one thing… you can’t do it alone.
If you’re looking for a date MeetMyMate lets you fill in most of your profile but then asks you
to nominate a mate to do the rest, just like you take a friend to a party or the pub,
You fill out your personal details, such as your height, looks and likes.
Your mate then adds the sort of things that only a mate can. Funny stories how you met, observations
that a potential date might find attractive or just a simple tale of why they think you are the goods.
You can add more mates and show off your mates to your potential dates.
Best of all, you can check out other people’s mates and see what they have to say, so you get a better
picture of who you are talking to and who they like to hang out with, just like you would if you met a
new person at the pub or a party.
Your mates can search for dates they think are right for you then send you a list for you to choose from.
And you can do the same for them.
And if any of your mates start acting up you can always change them for new ones.
If you’re looking for a date for your mate then you get the chance to start their profile by writing
a few things about them. Your mate then adds their personal details, like height, hair colour and what they’re
looking for in a perfect date.
Once their profile is online you can then both go searching for dates together. You can send them lists of people
you think will be perfect for them and, if you’ve got a profile too, they can return the favour.
So there you go. You, your mates, lots of dates.
2. How do I join?
Now that’s an easy one. You start by clicking on the button that says ‘Join’ at the top right of this and every page.
After that the screen will ask you who needs a date, you or your mate.
If you are looking for a date for yourself:
- Click ‘JOIN’
- Click ‘ME’
- Fill out all your details
- Add a really flattering picture
- Follow the instructions to nominate a mate.
Once nominated, we’ll send your mate an email asking them to write about how great you are.
You then have the chance to check you’re happy with what they’ve written and approve it.
Once your profile is complete MeetMyMate will double check it to make sure everything is hunky
dory and you’re good to go. See? Easy.

If you’re looking for a date for your mate:
- Click ‘JOIN’
- Click ‘MY MATE’
- Tell us a bit about your mate
- Give us their email address and we will send them an email inviting them to join
and showing what you have written.

If your mate agrees with what you’ve written, they approve your comments, add a few details
themselves and then you’re both free to go find them a date. And, if you’ve added your profile too
you can both help find each other dates. See? Easy.

3. What if my mate writes something I don’t like?
You choose which mate can write about you then you get the chance to approve or reject everything
they write… before it gets posted to your profile.
If you don’t like something your mate says it gets sent back to them for rewriting. And if they simply
can’t get it right, you can change mates at any time.
So, to be 100% clear:
- Nothing gets added to your profile without your approval
- You choose your mate and only your mate can write about you.
- You can change mates at any time
- No one has access to your log in and private details except you so you get final say on
everything that gets said abut you
4. Do I have to be single to join the site?
You have to be single to actually join the site, but if you want to find a date for your mate then you
can be single, married, engaged or whatever, and you can do all of that without joining.
5. How do I find dates for my mates?
Easy. Start by doing a search using the button at the top of the page that says, ‘FIND A DATE’. Then:
- Choose the sort of person you think would be good for your mate and a list of potential suitors will come up.
- Choose someone who you think looks right to take a closer look at his or her profile.
- From their profile page, click the button at the top of the page that says,
‘EMAIL TO A MATE’ or ‘ADD TO HOTLIST’.
6. What is ‘Confirming my email address’ and how do I do it?
As part of the join process we will send an email to the email address you provided. This email asks you to confirm
that you want to become a member and helps us make sure that no one is trying to join you up without you knowing.
Better for us, better for you, better for everyone.
When you receive your confirmation email you absolutely positively have to have to have to follow the instructions and
click on the link provided in the email. As soon as you do that your membership will be activated. If you forget to do
it then your membership won’t and you you’ll miss out on all the hot dates waiting for you.
7. The ‘Confirming my email address’ email never arrived. What do I do now?
First up, check your Junk Mail or Bulk Mail folder. If your junk mail filter is set to high then your email program
might think the email is spam and treat is accordingly. If you do find the email in one of these folders then please
add MeetMyMate (@MeetMyMate.com.au) to your safe senders list. This will make sure than any future emails we send you
(including lists of potential dates) make it to your inbox. After that, click on the link in the email to confirm your
email address and activate your account just like you would have if the email had landed in your inbox.
If you check your Junk Mail or Bulk Mail folder and don’t find the email then chances are you didn't receive it at all.
This normally means your email address is wrong in our system. To fix it:
- Go to "MYHOME" at the top of the page.
- Log onto MeetMyMate using the username and password you chose when you first signed up.
- Your nominated email address is displayed here. Please check to see if it's correct and change it as necessary.
8. How do I update my profile?
That’s easy. Just:
- Click the log in button at the top of this page.
- Got to the MYPROFILE page.
- Make your changes.
- Click SAVE when you’re finished.
You can change your profile as often as you like but remember, every time you do we need to double check
the words and photos. It’s noting personal, it just helps us make sure the wrong sort of people aren’t
writing the wrong sort of things and keeps the site better for everyone (except those wrong sort of people
who get frustrated and go somewhere else).
This means it can take up to 48 hours for your profile to change on the site.
9. I just updated my profile but it hasn’t changed. Please explain.
See above.
10. I am not receiving emails. What up?
If you’re not receiving any emails from MeetMyMate then you’re not going to get many dates. Bad for us, bad
for you.
The most likely reason is that MeetMyMate emails are going into your Spam or Junk Mail folder. This is
especially likely if you are using Yahoo! Mail or Hotmail, which have automatic spam filters to block messages
from people you don’t know. Here’s how to fix it:
If you’re using Hotmail:
- Log in to your Hotmail account.
- Click on the Options link, which is up the top of the screen on the right hand side.
- Click on Mail, which is in the menu on the left hand side.
- Click on the link that says, ‘Junk Email Protection’.
- Click on the link that says, ‘Safe List’.
- Type ‘MeetMyMate.com.au’ in the text field.
- Click on the button that says, ‘Add’.
If you’re using Yahoo! Mail:
- Log in to your Yahoo! Mail account.
- Click on ‘Addresses’ on the top left hand side of the page.
- Click on the link that says, ‘Add Contact’.
- Where you see ‘Name’ add ‘MeetMyMate’.
- Where you see ‘Email’ add ‘@MeetMyMate.com.au’.
- Click ‘Save Contact’. The screen will go to another page.
- On the next page, click ‘Done’.
11. Should I add a photo to my profile?
Yes, you should.
Our stats show that people who add photos to their profile get contacted up to 10 times more than
those without. It's free to upload your photo, and you can update it as often as you like.
12. So I can add a photo of Brad Pitt to my profile?
Nope. We have a few rules to keep the site running smoothly. The main ones are:
- You can only upload photos of yourself (ie: not Brad Pitt).
- You can’t have anyone else in your photo, especially not kiddies.
- Yes, that means no group photos or party shots.
- You can show a little flesh but no more than you’d see on a family beach. Definitely
nothing explicit and no naughty bits.
- Your photo should be no bigger than 200 pixels wide and 300 pixels high.
- Your photo should be a jpg.
- Your photo should be no bigger than 1Mb.

13. How do I upload my photo?
If you’re comfortable with cropping your photo and getting the size right in Photoshop then all you need to do is:
- Log on to your MeetMyMate profile.
- Select MYPROFILE from the tabs at the top of the page and click on the link that says, ‘Add Photo’.
- Choose your photo from your computer and click ‘Upload’.
If you’ve got a photo that doesn’t meet our rules and you’re not sure how to Photoshop it then
send it to us and we’ll do the hard work for you. The email address to send it to is
makemelookgood@MeetMyMate.com.au.
14. I uploaded my photo but it’s still not there. Where’d it go?
To make sure everyone sticks to rules, MeetMyMate checks every profile photo before letting it go
online. Since there are so many of you and only a few of us that means it can take a while for your
photo to get approved…up to 48 hours. As soon as your photo gets the tick of approval it will appear
on your profile and you’ll get an email telling you your photo is online.
15. How do I find a date?
See the bubble up the top right corner of this page that says, ‘Find a Date’? That’s where you start.
Once you’ve clicked there and told us who the date is for (you or your mate) you’ll be given 3 ways to find people.
They are:
WORDY
This is a bit like using Google. You type in some words that you might use to describe your perfect date and see
what comes up. Try to use words that someone would use to describe themselves. If you don’t get any results or
get too many results then try some different words or even a different type of search
QUICKIE
This is the fastest way to find people on MeetMyMate. Simply select the gender, age range and location of your
perfect date and hit GO. Generally this search will give you a lot of results.
THE FULL MONTY
The Full Monty allows you to be super choosy about the person you’re looking for. You can specify personal
characteristics such as height, body type and, hair and eye colour as well as musical preferences and a whole
bunch of other things that might be on your ticklist. The Full Monty is a great way to find your perfect date
but beware. If you get too specific you might find that there’s no one to match.
16. I’ve found a date, now how do I contact them?
Getting in contact with someone is a great idea. Everyone on the site is there because they want to meet new
people so there’s no need to be shy.
To contact someone, start by going to their profile page. You can do this by clicking on their photo or description
in the search results. A person’s profile lets you see a big photo of them, other photos, and how their mates
describe them. You can even check out who their mates are… after all you can learn a lot about a person from the
company they keep.
From someone’s profile page. you can:
- Send a ‘WINK’.
This is a quick message that lets the person know you're interested and would like to get to know them.
Every wink comes with a link to your profile so that the person you’re winking at can find out more about you.
Sending a wink is a great way to start contact. If the person winks back, they’re probably interested.
If not, they’re probably not. That’s why sending a wink is free.
- Send an ‘EMAIL’.
Our email system work a bit like Facebook. It comes from you but it happens via our secure and
anonymous email exchange. You can write what you want and the person is free to write back. If you
receive an email it’s good form to reply, telling them whether you are interested or not.
- CHAT
When you click on the Chat icon MeetMyMate will check if the person is currently online. If they are,
you will be able to have an online chat with them, like you would on Messenger. Chatting is quicker than
email and it happens in real time so you have a proper conversation.
As well as on the profile page, you will see the contact icons appear all over the site and you can click on
them any time to contact someone.
17. I’ve found someone I fancy, but I don’t have time to contact them right now?
No problem, just click on the Hotlist button on the profile page, or the hotlist icon on any of the other pages
and this will save that person for later in your MYHOTLISTS page.
18. Sounds good. How much will it set me back?
Nothing…yet. To get all you Romeos and Juliets interested in the site we’re offering 6 months free lovin’.
That means you don’t pay anything until at least August 2008 and there’s plenty of reason to join up and have a go.
After that, we’ll sort out some sort of highly attractive super bargain deal that will most likely make the site
free to join, free to send winks and charge a wee fee for emails and chat.
So don’t worry, we won’t be asking for your credit card anytime soon and we won’t be putting a price on anything
without giving you plenty of warning.
19. What happens when my free lovin’ runs out?
Your profile won’t change, nothing will disappear, you will still be able to search for people and send them winks
BUT you won’t be able to email them or chat. And we’ll give you plenty of notice first.
20. Can I hide my profile?
Absolutely. The name of the game is to get lucky so should you find yourself snugly involved in a loving relationship
the last thing you want to do is mess it up by leaving your profile online and making them think you’re still
on the market.
On the other hand you want to keep all those fantastic words up your sleeve in case it all goes pear shaped and
you need to back online ASAP.
To allow for all these likely scenarios you can hide and unhide your profile at any time. When your profile is
hidden it can’t be found by people searching for mates but you can still view it and make changes at any time.
When you unhide it, it simply reappears online again. There’s nothing more to it.
To hide or unhide your profile:
- Log in to the site.
- Go to MYHOME page.
- Click on PROFILE HIDDEN or PROFILE VISIBLE.
- That’s it, you’re done.
21. Is that the same as suspending my account?
Yes. There’s no need to suspend your account because hiding it performs the same purpose.
When your account is hidden no one can search for you and only you can view your profile. Hiding
your account costs you nothing and you can keep it hidden as long as you like.
22. How do I cancel my membership?
As much as we don’t want you to leave, we have made it easy for you. Go to your MYHOME page and click on CLOSE.
Just remember, when you close your account it’s gone forever…so maybe you’d like to try hiding it first.
